All Men Are Pigs is not the kind of visual novel you stumble across every day. Developed by KaimakiGames and successfully funded through Kickstarter back in 2019, this queer dating sim takes you to a fictional Caribbean island called Santa Locura where you play as Max, a guy looking for a fresh start. He picks up a summer job at a bar called The Inqueersition and from there things get interesting fast.

The setup sounds like your standard dating sim on paper but what makes AMAP stand out is the writing. It is genuinely funny. Not in a trying too hard way but in a natural, witty way where the humor comes from the characters and their interactions. The dialogue feels like actual conversations between real people and not scripted visual novel filler. A lot of players have compared it to Coming Out On Top, and that comparison is earned. If you enjoyed that game, you will feel right at home here.

There are several love interests to pursue and each one comes with their own storyline, personality, and yes, their own set of problems. Diego, Levon, Olli, Evandro, Stefanos, and others all have distinct routes that branch off based on your choices. Some storylines are more emotional and serious while others lean into comedy and drama. The variety keeps things fresh across multiple playthroughs and with overlapping story elements you start to see how everything connects the more you play.

The art is gorgeous for the most part. Character designs are vibrant and expressive, and the tropical island setting really comes through in the backgrounds and overall aesthetic. One thing some players have pointed out is that the CG art can be a bit inconsistent in style since different artists worked on it, and honestly that is a fair observation. It can be slightly noticeable when you jump between scenes, but it does not ruin the experience by any means.

What really sells the game is how well the characters are written. Even when you do not like a character, you understand them. They feel fleshed out with real motivations and flaws. The game does not shy away from messy relationships, complicated feelings, and the kind of dating chaos that makes for a good story. There are puzzles and little interactive elements mixed in too, like figuring out passwords by paying attention to story details, which is a nice touch that rewards you for actually reading instead of just clicking through.

The game is available on Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android, and buying on itch.io also gets you a Steam key which is a nice bonus. There is a free demo if you want to try before committing, and at the current sale price it is solid value for the amount of content you get. KaimakiGames has hinted at a new project in the works too, so if you enjoy AMAP there may be more to look forward to.
