DESCRIPTION
Interactive story apps are everywhere now, and most of them blend together into the same soup of billionaire romances and mafia boyfriends. Lovel is a newer entry from a London-registered studio called LOVEL APP LLP, and while it is still small at around 10,000 downloads and 300 reviews, the story concepts already set it apart from the pack. Greek gods scheming behind your back, a secret revenge organization offering you a deal with consequences, mythical beasts hiding among humans, a vampire’s curse you might be the key to breaking, and a dangerous summer secret in France. These are not your standard recycled plots.
The app currently features stories like Witch’s Stone, where you are either a vampire’s prisoner or the one who can shatter an ancient curse. Order of the Black Fire drops you into a shadowy organization that promises revenge but demands a steep price. Black Sheep sends you to France for a summer that spirals into elite society and hidden danger. Bestiary puts you in a world where mythical creatures are real and you might be one of them. The Apple of Discord throws you into the middle of Greek god politics, betrayal, and divine manipulation. Each story has its own tone and setting, and the writing is engaging enough that players who enjoy fantasy and supernatural romance will find something to latch onto.
Customization is a strong point. Over 100 outfits and 100 hairstyles let you shape your character’s look to match the vibe of whatever story you are in. Choices affect character personality, relationships, and endings in ways that feel meaningful. The app positions itself as a choice-driven experience where your decisions actually change how people respond to you and where the plot goes, and early player feedback suggests the branching is real, not just cosmetic.
The developers are also notably responsive. Review replies on the Play Store are detailed, personal, and often reference specific player feedback. They have adjusted features based on user complaints and openly discuss upcoming additions like a replay subscription and community-built walkthroughs. For a small studio, that level of engagement is a good sign.
Where Lovel stumbles is the economy. The premium currency is crystals, and the pricing on customization items drew immediate criticism. One player noted that most hairstyles are locked behind either crystals or real money purchases, not just one or the other. The developers responded by pointing out that you can earn up to 400+ crystals regularly through daily logins, achievements, and reading chapters (up to 16 per chapter), which is actually more generous than many competitors on paper. Whether that keeps pace with the cost of premium choices and outfits across multiple stories is another question entirely.
There is also no episode replay feature yet, which means if you want to try a different choice you have to restart the entire book from scratch. The developers say a subscription-based replay system is coming, but it is not here yet. Walkthroughs and guides from the community are still sparse, which can be frustrating when your choices lead somewhere you did not want and there is no easy way to course correct.
The story library leans toward a younger demographic with several protagonists in their teens or early twenties, which some older players have flagged as limiting. The team says they are expanding into stories that appeal to a wider age range, so this may change over time.
Lovel is early in its life but the foundation is solid. The stories are creative, the customization is generous, the developers actually listen, and the production quality is respectable for a studio this size. If the economy smooths out and the library keeps growing with the same level of variety, this could become a real competitor in the interactive story space. Worth bookmarking and checking back on.
