DESCRIPTION
There is no shortage of Walking Dead games on mobile. Between Road to Survival (shut down late 2024), Survivors, No Man’s Land, and now All-Stars, the franchise has been stretched across just about every mobile genre you can think of. All-Stars goes the idle RPG route, and honestly, it is a decent fit for the source material. You build a team of comic book survivors, set them up in formation, and they fight walker hordes on their own while you are off doing other things. Come back later, collect rewards, tweak your lineup, push further. It is the AFK Arena formula with a zombie skin on it.
The game is developed by Com2uS (under the Gamevil label) and licensed through Skybound, so it pulls directly from the original comic series rather than the TV show. You will recruit familiar faces like Rick, Michonne, Negan, Carl, Abraham, and Glenn, each with their own abilities and upgrade paths. The character art goes for a stylized, slightly exaggerated look that gives it personality without straying too far from the comic aesthetic. Abraham looks like an absolute tank, which feels right.
Gameplay is split between the idle battles and the story mode, which retells events from the comics chapter by chapter. Your choices during story segments influence how things play out to some degree, though it is still a guided experience. There is also a PvP arena where you pit your team against other players, a guild system with co-op missions and clan wars, and regular events to keep things moving. The World Stage content goes deep, currently sitting at over 60 chapters.
Where All-Stars works best is as a background game. You set your formation, let your survivors grind, and check in a couple of times a day. It respects your time more than most mobile RPGs do. The flip side is that if you want to actively play for long sessions, there is not a lot to do. The combat is mostly hands off and the progression loop relies on waiting and collecting rather than moment to moment decisions.
Monetization is standard gacha. Better survivors are locked behind summons, and pushing into endgame content faster means spending. It is not the most aggressive model out there, but it is not generous either. Free players can progress fine for a while before the grind wall hits.
For Walking Dead fans who want something low maintenance to check in on throughout the day, All-Stars does the job. It is not going to blow anyone away, but it does not try to be something it is not.
